Kennesaw does not run its own water system; the Cobb County Water System provides water and sewer, while Kennesaw Building Services handles permits online. Plumber Atlanta is a free referral service, not a plumbing company. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Kennesaw.

Railroad history, 1990s houses
Kennesaw incorporated on September 21, 1887, and its railroad and Civil War past is on display at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. Today it is a suburban Cobb County city of 33,036 people (2020), home to Kennesaw State University and next to Kennesaw Mountain, about 23 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta along I-75 and Cobb Parkway. Most of its housing is much newer than its history: the median year built is 1998, and only about 11% predates 1980.
That age profile tells a plumber a lot. Many homes are on their second water heater or about to need one, with supply lines, shutoff valves and fill valves of the same vintage. Pressure regulators and expansion tanks installed with the original heater are also worth checking.
Cobb County water and sewer
The Cobb County Water System lists Kennesaw among the cities it serves, and the city's Building Services page names it as the related agency. Cobb buys treated water from the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, which draws from the Chattahoochee River and Lake Allatoona. Cobb's report lists free chlorine disinfection, not chloramine, and added fluoride.
The county owns the line from the main to the meter, and the pipe from the meter to the house is the owner's. Sewer backups and broken water lines go to the county's emergency number, 770-419-6201; customer service is 770-419-6200.
Backflow testing
Cobb County requires a backflow device anywhere a cross-connection could contaminate the public supply, such as an irrigation system. Assemblies must be tested every year by a tester registered with the county, and reports go through the Swift Comply portal. The county publishes its list of approved testing companies, and its backflow supervisor is at 770-528-3343.
Permits online only
Kennesaw Building Services enforces the 2024 International Plumbing Code with Georgia amendments, and every permit must be applied for online through the city's iWorQ portal. Questions go to 770-429-4554 or [email protected].
Gas safety
Atlanta Gas Light publishes the leak line for this part of Cobb; confirm the pipe utility named on your gas bill. If you smell gas, leave the house, then call 911 and Atlanta Gas Light at 877.427.4321 from outside.
Calling for help
Unlike an Atlanta home, a Kennesaw house is on Cobb County water with a second source in Lake Allatoona, and its permits go through Kennesaw. Call the number on this page with the problem and the age of the house, and you'll be connected with an independent plumber who works in Kennesaw.
