Mableton became a city recently and now issues its own plumbing permits, but water and sewer service stays with the Cobb County Water System. Plumber Atlanta is a free referral service that connects callers with independent plumbers. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Mableton.

Plumbing services in Mableton
Permits moved to the city; water did not
Voters approved cityhood on November 8, 2022, and Mableton elected its first mayor in 2023. One practical result is that plumbing permits no longer come from Cobb County. The City of Mableton Building Division issues plumbing permits for water, sewer and gas line installations or repairs, along with electrical and mechanical permits, and it takes applications only through its Cloudpermit portal. The office is on Mableton Parkway (404-854-4904).
Utilities did not change hands. The Cobb County Water System lists Mableton among the cities it serves and handles both water and sewer. Its emergency line, 770-419-6201, covers sewer backups and broken water lines, and customer service is 770-419-6200.
Water source and responsibility
Cobb County Water System buys treated water wholesale from the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, which draws from the Chattahoochee River and Lake Allatoona and treats it at the Quarles and Wyckoff plants. Cobb's report shows free chlorine disinfection, not chloramine, and added fluoride. The county owns the line from the main to the meter; the pipe from the meter to the house is the owner's. Cobb also runs a backflow program: assemblies must be tested every year by a tester registered with the county, with results filed through Swift Comply, and the county publishes a list of approved testing companies.
An older community than its city charter suggests
Mableton is Cobb's newest and most populous city, about 12 miles west-northwest of downtown Atlanta. The 2020 Census counted 40,834 people within the old community boundaries, and the city limits are larger. It grew as a rail-era settlement along Veterans Memorial Highway, and landmarks like the Robert Mable House and the Concord Covered Bridge over Nickajack Creek date back well before the suburbs. The median home was built in 1988, and about 35% predate 1980, many of them 1960s to 1980s houses. In those, aging drain lines, sewer laterals and galvanized or early copper supply piping come up often; newer subdivisions call more about water heaters and fixtures.
Gas service and safety
Natural gas here may come through Atlanta Gas Light or, for some addresses, the municipal Austell Gas System; your gas bill names the utility. If you smell gas, leave the house first, then call 911 and the utility from outside: Atlanta Gas Light at 877.427.4321, or Austell Gas System at 770-948-1841, option 1.
